René Magritte

This documentary reveals little-known facets of the life and work of René Magritte (1898-1967), the Belgian surrealist painter. From his troubled childhood in the Pays Noir, to his great American success, his stormy relations with the Parisian Surrealists, and the key phases of an extraordinary artistic career, this film looks back at the complex personality of a man of a bourgeois-looking man who changed our view of the world forever. A poet of images before he was a painter, we discover an unique and original approach that never ceases to disturb our mental patterns. In each painting, Magritte set himself the goal of "evoking the mystery of the world". While it may be impossible to explain them, this documentary sheds new light on the work of one of the most famous artists of the 20th century.
